Twelfth Night, Shut In Shakespeare

In these challenging times, Lily is grateful to be participating in Shut In Shakespeare, an actor/scholar/director collective effort to delve deeply into Shakespeare plays without the pressure, expectation or ego of performing them. Her longtime friend from Boston University undergrad, Brian Vaughan, his wife Rachel Vaughan, and their Shakespeare Connoisseur friend Lisa Norris-Lynner came up with this idea many years ago in De Moines, however quarantine has now allowed friends from across the country to come together over Zoom, (including fellow BU classmates Ross Briscoe and Chelsea Kurtz) and see it finally happen! Twelfth Night is the play they’re starting with. Lily’s gratitude to see things come full circle with this play is three fold: 1) her and Brian’s first Shakespeare scene-study at BU was Act II Sc. 4 in Twelfth Night in the roles of Viola and Orsino, 2) simultaneous to that Shakespeare Scene Study Class, classmate Chelsea Kurtz performed in their school’s production of Twelfth Night in the role of Olivia taking the house down, and last but not least, 3) classmate Ross’ senior year/thesis ingenious gay-man-stuck-in-the-middle interpretation of Viola’s “I Left No Ring With Her” speech seared in her memory, and will forever be the best and most personal version she’s ever seen.
